Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

August was born September 13, 1966 to Thomas Karl and Sherrill Rae (Stoner) Schaefer in San Diego, California and passed from this life April 20, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educated in San Diego and attended Grossmont High School before receiving his GED. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force Base, in California at Travis Air Force Base, where he met his wife Terri (Brocious) during Desert Storm; the couple was married January 25, 1991 in Reno, Nevada. He was then stationed in the Portuguese Azores at Lajes Air Base.  In May of 1997, the couple moved to Enid where he was stationed at Vance Air Force Base as a medic. After retiring in 2006 he worked for the base Mental Health Clinic, then spent several years with the 8 th Flying Training Squadron before returning to the Vance AFB Medical Group.

He enjoyed Notre Dame football, working out and CrossFit, traveling and was a “foodie.” He loved his family, friends, and his four cats. In his younger years he played the bass guitar and was a member of a garage band, in the last four years he had begun playing the jazz bass again, but just for Terri.

Everyone who knew him knew what a goofy man he could be, and his goal in life seemed to be to amuse others, to lighten their load, even if it was just doing something silly to take their minds off their troubles. He was a confirmed cat-a-holic and couldn’t look a stray cat in the face and not want to take them home. He loved to sit on the front porch in his hundred-year-old house and have a glass of wine while the world drove by. His pride (and obsession) in his lawn was something to behold, and he loved their beautiful old home. Christmas was his very favorite holiday, and he adored opening his home for an annual Christmas party that quickly gained quite the reputation as the place to be.

He is survived by his wife Terri Schaefer, of the home, and three sisters Leslie, Lauren and Nicole of San Diego California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be given in his honor to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Society with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at WWW.Brown-Cummings.com.
