Betty L. Smith

April 6, 1939 — December 18, 2020

Betty Lou Smith, resident of Enid, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. She was 81 years old. A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond, OK. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kiel Pepper, David Grantham, Kaden Smith, Derek Smith, Brandon Smith, and Zachariah Smith. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Betty was born on April 6, 1939 in Oklahoma City and moved to a farm just outside of Guthrie when she was young. Her and her brothers would listen to records on the roof of their barn, gather eggs from the henhouse and bring the cows home in the evenings. After graduating high school in Guthrie, Betty moved to Oklahoma City and attended business school. She met Gary R. Smith soon after and the two were married on May 13, 1960 in Oklahoma City. They moved to Enid during the summer of 1973. Betty worked at Pete’s Farmer’s Market, Midwestern Life Insurance, and retired from Northern Equipment. Outside of work, Betty enjoyed camping with her family, working on ceramics, and knitting.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Erma O’Neil, brother, Jim O’Neil, her husband, Gary Smith, grandson, Colton Smith, and nephews, Blake Smith and Jason O’Neil.

Survivors include her daughter, Krystal Jantz and husband Marvin of Enid, sons, Curt Smith and wife Cheryl of Lenexa, KS and Barry Smith and wife Brenda of Shawnee, OK, grandchildren, Mallory, Meagan, Derek, Abigail, Zach, Liberty, and Brandon, great-grandchildren, Kaden, Axton, Dallis, Jensen, Isabella, Madelyn, Jett, Emma, and Levi, brother, Bob O’Neil and wife Sherry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s honor to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Cancer Division or Hospice Circle of Love.
