The Memorial services celebrating and honoring the life of Dwight Lee Mehlig, 77, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday April 9, 2026, in the Oakwood Christian Church with Pastor Mark Mehlig officiating. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Dwight was born June 15, 1948, to Virgil and Alice Dickerson Mehlig in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life March 28, 2026, in Enid, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educated in Enid graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1966. In the same year he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam as a Radio Yellsman. He was honorably discharged after six years of service in 1972, during this time he graduated from College at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, Oklahoma. In 1971 he joined the Enid Police department he worked his way up to a Captain and was serving as Assistant Chief at the time of his retirement in 1991. He retired for a total of 8 hours when he began his career with the Department of Corrections as a Probation Officer 1991-1993. Then from 1993 to 1996 he was Chief of Security at the ECCC and later served in the IT department at Department of Corrections until the time of his second retirement in August 2014. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, especially deer; taking long motorcycle trips, including going to the Grand Canyon, Sturgis, Yellowstone, and Major League Baseball tour; competitive archery and was a firearms instructor. He was a long-time member of Oakwood Christian Church and was now a member of Emmanuel Enid.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Mehlig, of the home, one daughter Desiree Mehlig, of Enid, two grandchildren, Ethan and Paiton; one great granddaughter on the way; one brother Mark Mehlig and many other aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, which he considered his own family, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Alice Mehlig and one brother Rodney Mehlig and one brother-in-law Steve Swiggart.
