Gary and Linda McCurdy

Gary Scott McCurdy, 85, of Norman, Oklahoma, joined the love of his life in Heaven April 13, 2026, following a long battle with Parkinson’s. He was born January 16, 1941, in Purcell, Oklahoma, to William C. “Dr. Bill” McCurdy, Jr., and Olga Wittenberg McCurdy.

Linda May Riggan, 80, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away November 21, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 7, 1941, in Leola, Arkansas, to James Arlin Riggan and Ruby McCartney Riggan. Gary and Linda were lovingly married for a remarkable 55 years.

Gary grew up in Purcell, Oklahoma, with his siblings and cousins playing sports, fishing, and hunting. After graduating from Purcell High School, Gary went on to attend the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Linda grew up in Leola, Arkansas with her brother, Tommy Riggan, and enjoyed playing basketball. After graduating high school, Linda went on to attend the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and Phi Beta Kappa, and then Henderson State University where she was Miss Arkansas and a Miss America Finalist. Linda moved to Dallas, Texas, following graduation and worked as a model.

Gary entered the United States Army in 1963. While visiting a fraternity brother in Dallas, Gary was introduced to his future wife, Linda May Riggan. The two married on December 19, 1965, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. Gary was honorably discharged from the Army in 1966, with commendations for being an expert rifleman and sharpshooter. Gary would return to Oklahoma to graduate from OU with his Bachelor of Science and then went on to earn his master’s in business administration from OU as well.

Gary and Linda made their home in Norman, Oklahoma, where they would welcome two children, Gregory Scott McCurdy (deceased, 7/15/70) and April Colleen McCurdy. Gary purchased Purcell Seed & Grain which he operated until his retirement. Gary was an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and OU athletics. Gary was a member of Rotary and was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Norman.

Linda enjoyed an early career with John Roberts until she became a devoted mother to Gregory and April. Linda was active in PTA, the Assistance League of Norman, PEO, May Fair Arts Festival, and as a patron of the Fred Jones Museum of Arts. Linda was an avid tennis player and runner. Linda also enjoyed cooking, attending OU athletic events, as well as teaching Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Norman. Once their daughter was out of elementary school, Linda began a career as an interior designer and decorated many of the sorority and fraternity houses on the OU campus.

Gary and Linda were a beautiful and fun loving couple. Gary was friendly, witty, and gregarious, while Linda was kind, caring, and selfless. Linda treated everyone she met with kindness and grace, and you were a better person if you had the privilege of knowing her. They took immense pride in their roles as spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling, and friend. They loved each other unconditionally and gave back to their community without fault. Their greatest gifts in life were their children Gregory and April, and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Cole; that was evident to everyone around them. Together, they created a family and community of friends that felt loved, appreciated, and cherished. “Gary Mac” and “Miss Linda” welcomed countless friends into their home with open arms and an abundance of brisket and caviar pie. They were lifelong friends to many and faithful companions to each other until the very end. “Love you to the moon and back” Poppie and Nana. Until we meet again.

They are survived by their daughter – April McCurdy Davis and her husband, Tom Davis; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Avery Davis and Gregory “Cole” Davis; Gary’s brother, Dr. William C. McCurdy III, and his wife Anne; Gary’s sister, Gail Hurley, and her husband, Phil; Linda’s Brother, Tommy Riggan, and his wife Pat; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that held special places in their hearts.

A private burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell for immediate family, followed by a celebration of life reception in Norman. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home in Enid, Oklahoma.

It is their wish that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, or the University of Oklahoma Sooner Club with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
