Harvey A. Olson

The Funeral Services Celebrating and Honoring the Life of Harvey A. Olson, 91, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday January 5, 2019 in the St. Pauls Lutheran Church with Reverend David Reber Jr. officiating. Burial will precede at 11:30 A.M. in the Karoma Cemetery in Goltry, OK. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. A family visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. – 6:30 P.M. Friday January 4, 2019 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Harvey was born at an early age October 22, 1927 to a Norwegian immigrant, Anton Olson and a Swedish Norwegian mother Laura Johnson. He was the youngest of 9 children and grew up on a farm near Adrian Minnesota. Dr Olson attended a country grade school and eventually graduated from Luverne High School. He enlisted in the Air Force while attending the University of Wyoming in Laramie. He later went to weather
school in Chanute Field, Illinois. Harvey also became a journeyman electrician and worked in the rural electrification program wiring farm houses. He met and married the late Jane Joneson of Valley Springs SO in 1950 and was blessed with five children. Dr. Dwight, a veterinarian, and Dianne Olson of Enid, OK., Joanne, a registered nurse, and Bruce Crain of Enid, Barbara a special ed teacher and School administrator, and Tom
Penrose of Tulsa, Bryce, a physical therapist, and Jackie Olson of Lubbock Texas, and Laura Lynn, a physical therapist, and Dr. Kasey Simpson of Cushing OK. Dr. Harvey Olson returned to the University of Minnesota where he received BS and DVM degrees in 1956.

Harvey practiced in Topeka Kansas for 3 years prior to coming to Enid where he owned and operated Olson Animal Hospital for some 40 years. He was president and board member of Rotary, President and member of the Enid School board, president of the church council and served on the boards of the chamber of Commerce, United way fund, Salvation Army, American Business Club(AMBUCS) and Boy Scouts.

His first love was the Word of God and he served his Lord Jesus Christ by teaching many Bible studies to youth, college, business men and couples. He was married to Jane for 51 years and loved his family and was happiest being with them. Their home was a home to many others too, such as pregnant girls(twelve) from Kansas in their last three months of pregnancy, and many "society drop outs". Many called them Mom and Dad besides their five children, twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Hospitality is a gift of God and their home was always open to those in need of counseling, food or shelter.

Memorials may be made to Bungoma Bible Ministries in Kenya, Africa where they heavily supported education of people, fed street kids, and fully cared for 30 orphans all in the name of Jesus. The Children’s home was dedicated in Honor of Jane Olson in 2005. The Brown-Cummings Funeral Home will be serving as custodian of the funds.
