The celebration of life honoring the life of R. Leigh Johnson, 88, of Enid will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday October 19th, 2024, in the Brown-Cummings, A Life Celebration Home Chapel. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings.
Leigh was born November 30, 1935, to Robert E. and Alma L. Clark Burch in Riverside California and passed from this life October 1, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.
She was raised by her maternal Grandmother Fidelia Clark in Riverside, CA graduating from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1953. She then attended Dental hygienist school, and worked as a dental assistant/Office Manager until her retirement. She married Dr. George Johnson December 9, 1967. The couple made their home in Huntington Beach, CA where they raised their family until 1990 when they moved to Albuquerque New Mexico, where they made their home until moving to Garber in 1999, She then made her final move to Enid in 2013 where she happily remained.
She was very athletic in high school and was the only girl on the Boys Baseball team and competed in dance competitions well into Adulthood. After having children, she was 100% committed to raising her family, she was very selfless and giving of her time; throughout her life she made huge differences in many children’s lives opening her home as a Therapeutic Foster home. She loved to read, sometimes reading three to five books in a single day, she also enjoyed making family heirlooms such as Cook Books and Family History albums.
She is survived by her sons Anthony (Tony) Jonson and Tim & Kristi Johnson; her grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Kristal Cooley and Husband Travis, Taira Conner and husband Dusty, Johnathan Johnson, Summer Johnson, Raistlin Johnson, Christopher Howieson, & Colton Johnson; her great grandchildren, Hadleigh & Adelynn Simpson, Hunter & Gabriel Winters, Paisley & Reagan Cooley, and Harley & Theoden Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jenifer L. Johnson; and her Brother Gary and wife Mitsuko Burch.
Memorials may be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s research Hospital and the Enid YWCA with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
