Michael A. Burks

The Home Going Services celebrating and honoring the life of Michael A. Burks will be held 10:00 A.M. December 29, 2020 in the Enid Cemetery with Reverend Norwood officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

​Michael Arnold Burks (Heavy), 68, passed away peacefully at Bass Integris Hospital.  ​

Michael Burks was born to Nancy Lee Burks and Charlie Thompson in Watonga, Oklahoma on August 19, 1952. He was born one of eight children. He attended public school and graduated from Enid High School. He would go on to take classes from Career Tech where he studied how to measure electric currents and on automotive engines.

Michael worked at Vance Air Force Base as a cook for many years. He joined the Army National Guard where he was a marksmen and first class grenade handler. He was active member of the Enid community. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch soap operas, playing cards, pool, dominos, and riding his motorcycle.

Michael began a new journey in his life when he was diagnosed with cancer. After years of chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments it began to take over his health. On December 18 ^th , God saw him getting tired and decided to call him home.

Michael leaves to cherish his memories, his loving companion Barbara Collier of Enid, OK, his only daughter KeLea Burks of Lafayette, LA, six grandchildren KaeLani, Sage, Jade, Makaila, Samiyah, and KeShawn of Lafayette, LA, three sisters Debbie Burks Freeman of Enid, OK, Joyice Turner of Olathe, KS, and Nancy Baker Phillips (Marcellous) of Enid, OK, and a host of nieces and nephews extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Julie Mae (Love) Burks and Mac McKinley Burks, his parents Nancy Burks Baker and Charlie Thompson, his siblings Joe Harvey Baker, Terry Freeman, Bernice Turner, and Lou Willie Gene Turner, and his nephew Toby TaVauhn Turner.
