The funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Robert J. “Bob” Emery, age 81, will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday January 4, 2018 in the Central Christian Church. A private family burial will precede the service. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Bob was born February 17, 1937 to Robert Tillman and Velree Lucille (Neese) Emery in Carmen, OK. and passed away Friday December 28, 2018 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. He was surrounded by his family when he passed.
Bob’s father passed away suddenly when he was three years old and he was raised by his mother, aunt and uncle, and grandparents on the family farm outside of Carmen. Bob attended school and graduated from Carmen High School in 1955. Following high school, he attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. Bob married his high school sweetheart Sandra Kay Board in 1958 in Carmen, OK. Following his college graduation, Bob went to work for the Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Jefferson City, Missouri. After multiple years with Oliver, Bob began working for the New Holland Machine Company where he eventually opened and managed the New Holland dealership in Enid, OK. It was Enid where Bob and Sandra made their home and raised their three daughters, Stephanie, Cynthia, and Amy. Bob also worked in real estate in Enid before joining the commercial lending team at Security National Bank where he served as Senior Vice President until his retirement. Following his retirement, Bob and Sandra moved to Duncan, OK to be closer to family. While in Duncan, Bob, who never could really “retire,” continued to work doing appraisal reviews using his master appraiser certification.
Bob was very active in the Enid and Duncan communities and was involved in multiple civic organizations, including but not limited to The Grand National Quail Club, Enid Habitat for Humanity, Enid Home Builders, and both the Enid and Duncan Rotary Clubs. Bob helped start The Keeper of the Plains Scholarship program for college bound Native Americans and The Smokin’ Red Dirt BBQ Cookoff in Enid, OK. Bob was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and attended Central Christian Church in Enid and First Christian Church in Duncan.
In his spare time, Bob loved to hunt, fish, and cook (especially BBQ) for his friends and family. Bob enjoyed people and he never met a stranger. People always knew when Bob was present because they could hear his loud and boisterous laugh. He was known for his big personality and even bigger heart.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Velree Emery. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandra Emery, his three daughters, Stephanie Gregston of Duncan, OK, Cynthia Olbert of Enid, OK, and Amy Daise of Cumming, GA. Bob is also survived by his six grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Robert, Ryan, Jillian, Jerica, Brett, and Matthew. He will always be their “Pampaw” Bob.
