The Memorial Services celebrating and honoring the life of Susan Shorter will be held privately. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Susan was born August 17, 1948, to Alpha J. Shorter Sr. and Ida Maxine (Barrett) Shorter in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life June 4, 2021, in Enid, Oklahoma.

A single mother, she raised her sons, Gary and Jeremy Schneider, in Houston.

She worked at Houston Eye Associates for thirty years and participated in mercy missions to Central America.

She was a passionate reader. She was also a dancer and gave lessons in country line dancing at popular clubs like Gilley’s and Bullwhip.

She had a heart for animals and was the Director of Operations for the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue. She helped rescue hundreds of dogs during her service there.

She loved the Houston Rodeo, serving as a Marshall for 30 years and sitting on the Cattleman’s Committee.

Susan was one of the family historians, keeping track and sending out reminders of birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates.

She is survived by her son Gary Schneider and her grandchildren Trey and Brittney; and son Jeremy Schneider; her sister Luanne Shorter Jones; and brother A.J. Shorter.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to an animal rescue program of your choice with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
