Theron Lamar Norwood was born on October 3, 1956, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Jimmie and Charlene Norwood. He was the third of seven children. Raised in a strong faith-based household, Theron grew up in the Church of God in Christ, where his father, Elder Jimmie Norwood, pastored the West Side Church of God in Christ in Enid. He attended Carver Elementary School, Emerson Junior High School, and graduated from Enid High School in 1974. Shortly after graduation, Theron enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era.
Following his military service, he built a career in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), working in various states including Colorado, Louisiana, California, and Nevada, before eventually returning home to Enid. A fall on a construction site later in life left him injured, limiting his ability to continue in the trade he knew and loved. Nevertheless, Theron remained devoted to his role as a father and grandfather.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Theron traveled frequently and rarely stayed in one place for long. If you missed him on one visit, you could count on him making his way back around. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, and watching sports—especially when the Raiders or the Lakers were winning. In recent years, he became an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners softball team.
Family was always at the heart of Theron's life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Charlene Norwood; his sister, Cheryl Norwood; and his son, Theron Norwood Jr. (TJ).
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Terrance (Devanea) Norwood, Levina Norwood, Treka Brown, and Jonathan Norwood; grandchildren: Travion Raymere Franklin, Taniah Raydean Franklin, and Tyson Lamar Norwood; brothers: Ronald (Sandra) Norwood, Derwin (Debra) Norwood, Kevin (Laretha) Norwood, and Stacey (Janet) Norwood; sister: Lanita Norwood; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at WWW.Brown-Cummings.com.
