Vernon Wade Wright was born on November 16, 1955, at Fort Stewart in Georgia, to Raymond and Peggy Wright. He was the oldest of three children, with a younger sister, Margaret, and a younger brother, Claude, who preceded him in death. Growing up in a military family shaped much of Vernon’s early life and gave him a strong sense of independence that stayed with him throughout his years.
From a young age, Vernon had a gentle and unique spirit and a strong sense of independence. As a child, he was thoughtful and a little quiet, with a personality all his own. He grew into a strong-willed and independent man with a unique way of seeing the world. Those who knew him best understood that his individuality was an important part of who he was.
Because of his family’s military life, Vernon moved often and attended many schools, learning early how to adapt and make his own way. He never married, but he built a close circle of friends who became an important part of his life.
Vernon owned and operated his own lawn care and landscaping business and took great pride in working for himself. He valued self-reliance and enjoyed the freedom that came with building something on his own.
He loved country and western dancing and was known for being light on his feet, always enjoying the music and the energy of the dance floor. Dancing was one of his favorite ways to connect with others and have fun. Vernon also regularly attended Bible Baptist Church in Enid, Oklahoma.
Vernon is survived by his sister, Margaret “Micki” Canfield; her husband, and their two sons. He will be remembered for his independence, his determination, his unique spirit, and the quiet ways he cared about the people in his life.
Family and friends will host a Celebration of Life in Vernon’s honor, where those who knew him can gather to share memories and celebrate his life.
